Additional Benefits

Welcome to Additional Benefits

Medicare in its original form or with private plans (Medicare Part C ) both have the same purpose but not the same benefits. Know thanks to the new Medicare Advantage or Part C options you have a vast list of additional benefits that can help you have a better quality of life.  Not all plans are created equal so feel free to select and speak to a certified Medicare Advisor who can answer all your questions.  A Medicare Trusted Advisor in your area is ready to find every benefit you are entitled to.

Transportation

Medical Transportation is essential for some seniors that cannot drive. Common uses for Medical Transportation are:

  • Doctor’s Appointment This is easily the most common use of most medical transport services.
  • Trips to Dialysis centers for patients that get diagnosed with chronic kidney problems.
  • Trips to the pharmacy.

Food Benefits

Most seniors are on a fixed budget which means that any additional benefit that will allow them to eat healthy is a great benefit.

  • Food benefits are important in that it helps prevent frailty in seniors (i.e., poor diet and nutrition and low physical function), thereby reducing the likelihood of disability and consequent nursing home stays, hospitalizations, and high associated costs.

Cash Back

Part B Cash Back is a great benefit for seniors.

A Part B Premium Giveback is the Health Care carrier’s coverage of a designated portion of an enrollee’s Part B premium. The carrier notifies the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Social Security Administration of this agreement to take on the cost of the specified amount. The Part B Giveback is credited monthly on the beneficiaries’ Social Security check

This incentive is found within select Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, though, it is important to note, the Part B Giveback can be restricted to specific states and counties. It’s important to check the service area of the MA plans featuring this incentive to make sure your plans with this benefit are available to your client(s). Check with your Trusted Medicare Advisor to see if there is a plan available in your area.

Meals

Meal Delivery Post Hospital Discharge Proves to be Beneficial.

After a hospitalization, the hospital will send the patient home with medication instructions, exercise instructions, and of course, nutrition instructions.  But many seniors go home to an empty house with minimal help.  It is no surprise that proper nutrition can be lacking.  Without a hospital discharge meals plan in place for the patient, healing may take longer than expected.  Worse, the patient can wind up back in the hospital in a weakened state due to a lack of proper nutrition, that is why a Post Meal delivery benefit may prove truly beneficial to seniors.

Dental

A Health plan with strong dental benefits will increase the possibility of keeping your original teeth as long as you can.

Maintaining good oral health is important but more so for seniors who are prone to a lot more dental risks. Aging conditions like arthritis can make it difficult to exercise good dental hygiene every day and loss of memory can lead to forgetfulness in terms of regular brushing and flossing. Risks of conditions like diabetes and heart disease surge with poor oral health which makes it all the more important for seniors to take care of their oral health.

Vision

Regular eye exams are even more important as you reach your senior years.

Most people have trouble with their vision as they get older, even if they have never had vision problems previously. And, the cost of purchasing eyeglasses and contact lenses can get expensive. More so, conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cataracts are common age-related conditions that develop and warrant treatment. Vision insurance for seniors can help defray some of the costs related to these needs.

Fitness

Exercise has countless benefits for those of all ages.

Exercise has countless benefits for those of all ages, including a healthier heart, stronger bones, and improved flexibility. For seniors, there are additional benefits, like the fact that regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic diseases, lowers the chance of injury, and can even improve one’s mood.

Acupuncture

Clinical trials have shown that both acupuncture and acupressure are effective in older adults with fewer side effects as compared to western medicine.

Seniors especially benefit from acupuncture because more seniors are looking for an integrated approach to address their health concerns and to stay healthy and active as they age.

Acupuncture has a long history of pain relief. Peer-reviewed, scientific journals have taken notice that acupuncture can deactivate pain at the source by changing local endorphin levels.

Over-the-Counter benefits

Plans with Over-the-Counter benefits (OTC) are a benefit that gives you money to purchase everyday personal care and wellness products like vitamins, bandages, and toothpaste without having to leave your home. This is a  money-saving benefit of certain Medicare Advantage plans. You’ll get the drugstore items you like to use, at no cost to you. Each plan has its own catalog items and the participating pharmacies you may use.

Personal Emergency Response Device

Recognized in the senior community an indispensable tool.

People, especially seniors, are using Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) much more these days. Due to technological advancements, seniors can use these systems to live independently for longer.

One of the biggest reasons older individuals move out of their homes into nursing homes is because of the dangers of living alone. Mitigating these dangers is possible using a Personal Emergency Response System.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can help seniors to restore their balance and coordination.

Keeping your body strong and healthy is more and more important the older you get, so treating injuries properly is a big part of staying mobile. Regular chiropractic care can help with more than just sore muscles in dealing with issues like arthritis pain, osteoporosis, and even incontinence.

Chiropractic care is a method of hands-on treatment that can help seniors attain general wellness and lasting pain relief. While chiropractic care has been shown to provide numerous benefits for people of all ages, seniors, in particular, may improve their quality of life through consistent visits to a chiropractor.

Fall Prevention benefits

Fall prevention is a vital component of well-being and longevity.

Because many seniors have osteoporosis when they fall their bones are much more likely to break, causing painful fractures, back pain, and other problems. Plus, those bones take much longer to heal when they are brittle — all reasons for putting some focus on preventing falls. Fall Prevention benefits will specifically include items to help prevent you to fall.

Home Repairs

Home repairs and modifications help seniors live in their homes for as long as possible.

Medicare Advantage Plans including Home Modifications are available in some states and counties for Chronically ill seniors enrolled in certain MA plans. Seniors could be eligible for better indoor air quality equipment and home modifications and repairs such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, handheld showers, and widened halls and doorways.
